- Give a description of a day in the life of a HR Officer.
I start work at 8.30am. I will check my emails and respond to any queries. I spend a lot of time investigating issues that are affecting employees or managers. I may attend meetings about various things such as employee performance or conduct issues and I will spend time preparing for the meeting. I also provide support for managers during the meetings and provide training in this area. I assist with renewing employees VISA’s which is part of their right to work in the UK. I finish at 5pm
- After you qualified, did it take long to find a job?
I found a job within 1 month. It was very easy to get a job. I was offered a HR job at another engineering firm but the wage was too low and then I was going through the interview stages at a large global company when I interviewed for Dunbia. Dunbia offered me the role and I pulled out of the interview process for the other firm.
- What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing this career?
Find a business which will support your continued learning. Find a manager whose values align with your own. You will spend more time at work than with your family and friends so the team which you are in is very important.
- What’s the best thing about your job?
The training which I have received has been brilliant and I have been given some important responsibilities. I have been on training courses at different venues including a year long course at University College Dublin which I attended on a monthly basis. I got to meet senior figures within the business in both a professional and casual environment and listen to what Dunbia means to them. This helped me understand how they make decisions which influence thousands of people and how this impacts on the food which we all eat.
- How long have you been doing your job?
