After you qualified, did it take long to find a job?
Not at all! I wasn't actively searching, but I took a chance and applied to two jobs on a whim. To my surprise I received offers for both. I picked Dunbia because the interview process felt like a much more welcoming atmosphere, and the manager outlined clear opportunities for career growth. It taught me that sometimes, taking risks and trusting the process can lead to amazing opportunities. It’s all about being open, staying proactive and believing that the right opportunities will come at the right time.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing this career?
I'd advise them to be curious, ask lots of questions, and embrace every challenge as a learning opportunity. Networking is key- build relationships, stay in touch with people and never underestimate who might help you out in the future. Most importantly, work hard and strive to be the best version of yourself and remember, there will be good days and tough ones, but both are part of the journey!
If you had the chance to do it all over again, what would you do the same / differently?
If I had the chance to do it all over again, I wouldn’t change where I’ve ended up, because I’m exactly where I want to be. But I would have told my younger self to take career planning more seriously and to research the industry and study it sooner. If something interests you, don’t wait, start learning about it as soon as you can.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The best part of my job is being part of a supportive and reliable team. I also appreciate the flexibility of managing my own schedule, which allows me to work efficiently and independently. I genuinely enjoy writing reports, meeting new suppliers, and representing the company during audits. There’s always something new to learn in the meat industry, whether it’s sector-specific or related to food safety, which keeps the role both engaging and rewarding.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
In five years, I hope to have significantly advanced my career as an auditor within the red meat industry. I aim to gain deeper expertise in auditing practices, particularly in areas related to food safety and regulatory compliance. I want to continue building my technical skills and industry knowledge, while progressing into more senior roles with greater responsibility. Most importantly, I hope to be a visible example of women leading confidently in the industry and to inspire others through my journey.
