Course duration
The qualification is gained through units, and candidates are encouraged to work at their own pace, following individual programmes of learning. The length of time taken to complete will depend upon many factors, but we expect most candidates to need between 9 and 12 months
Assessment
Open distance learning and work based assessment (there is usually no need to attend college). Your College Assessor will visit the workplace, which must comply with working in a safe environment. Assessments will take place to assess competence and underpinning knowledge.
On line support is available through a virtual learning environment (Moodle)
Programme of learning takes the form of a mixture of observations, written and oral questioning, which includes supervised knowledge tests in the workplace. Accreditation of prior learning is also considered, but this can be time bound (within last 3 years.
Entry requirements
Suitable learners of all ages are invited to join anytime of the year. It is essential you are currently employed in this area of learning and fully supported by your employer.
All applicants will undertake a thorough training needs analysis to ensure that the correct course and levels are chosen.
Career options
There is a clear vocational route from level 1 to level 2. If advancement to level 3 is required, the learner must be in a supervisory position. This can lead to Hospitality Supervision or NVQ Level 3 and 4 in Management qualification, which could provide access to Higher Education.
Cost
The fee for individuals is £100; however, there are often a variety of sources of funding available and further advice will be given on this.
