What is the best thing about your job?
- I am passionate about this role because it allows us to positively impact individuals' lives by providing support throughout their qualifications, life journey, and the discovery of their passions. Witnessing someone initially feeling nervous and uncertain at the start of an apprenticeship and then observing their gradual growth in skills and confidence, progressing through qualifications, and ultimately enjoying their job is incredibly fulfilling.
If you could give your 16 year old self some career advice what would it be?
- If I could offer career advice to my 16-year-old self, I would encourage myself to pursue what I love. Opt for a career that brings satisfaction and engagement, following your interests may lead to a highly successful journey. However, it's essential to understand that it's okay if the path doesn't turn into a lifelong careert. Focus on doing what you love, enjoy and learn from every step, and trust that the pieces of the puzzle will come together over time. Today's choices are for the present, and new decisions can be made if you discover a passion that resonates more in the years to come.
After you qualified, how long did it take you to find a job?
- I applied for jobs before I left Universaity so I had a job as soon as I passed my degree. I started as a management intern, learning how to be a manager at a number of retail stores across the country.
What does a work based learning manager do?
- I'm in charge of a great team that helps people learn and get qualifications in the food industry. I talk to businesses about the right qualifications for their employees and figure out how we can support them. I also plan and manage learning programs to make sure our team helps everyone learn well and succeed in their work-based training.
If you had the chance to do it all again, what would you do differently?
- If I could go back and do it over, I would focus more on enjoying each day. In school, I was always aiming for the next step – GCSEs for 6th form, A levels for University, and so on. I realised later that life is not just about future goals; it's also about appreciating today. Now, I make sure to enjoy the present while still pursuing new goals. It's not just about reaching the destination; it's about savouring the journey.
