- What does a People Advisor do? People Advisors support the business (from managers to team leaders to colleagues) on policies, procedures and best practice. We are often a 1st point of call for managers or employees who need advice and support, listening to the concern or situation and guiding support based on legalities, business policy knowledge or precedence set. Support with the implementation of policies or change and support both the business and colleagues with this change via means on consultation etc. effectively, we are your people support.
- After you qualified, did it take long to find a job? I was employed whilst completing my CIPD Level 3, and Level 5. I did both qualifications connsecutively upon leaving sixth form and once attained my level 3, was able to get a job covering HR & office functions, soon progressing to HR & Office Manager before turning my attention to solely focusing on HR when I joined TCB as People Advisor.
- How did you end up in this job? Nearing my later school years I was still really unsure what to do next. I knew I liked helping people, thought about becoming a teacher amongst other professions, but wasn’t committed before then talking with my mum who suggested exploring the world of Human Resources.
- What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing this career? It’s rewarding when you successfully help someone through /with a situation, but I would advise building resilience and dynamic communication types.
- What’s the best thing about your job? Being able to support people in work and turn a negative moment or instance into something positive or beneficial.
