- What does a Technical Graduate do?
- A Technical Graduate works within Hygiene, Technical Services, Quality Assurance and Process. I work with the managers of all these departments and learn how they do their jobs. When I’m comfortable in the role, I will be given the independence to take on certain responsibilities to get practical experience. My programme is 2 years long so I will spend roughly 6 months in each area.
- After you qualified, did it take long to find a job?
- I started applying for jobs in my final year of university. I applied for Greencore in February and completed the various stages of the application process in June when I was offered the job. After graduating in the July, I started my position in the September of the same year.
- How did you end up in this job?
- I did a placement year at university where I went to work for a food flavour manufacturer as an Analytical Chemist. After I completed my placement, I realised that I enjoyed the job, but I had fallen in love with the food and drink industry. So, when it came to finding a permanent job, I filtered for the industry and found my position.
- What’s the best thing about your job?
- I am never stuck behind a desk; I get to go into the factory and talk with a wide range of people from different backgrounds and cultures. Also, my workday is always dynamic, I am never doing the same thing. There are endless opportunities to get involved in something new and to learn. Lastly, the people. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful so make it so much easier to grow and learn.
- If you could give your 16-year-old self some career advice, what would it be?
- Everything will work out the way it is supposed to. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself and enjoy the journey. If you want to stand on the top step from day one there’s nowhere else left to go. So, enjoy the butterflies and the nerves because that winning feeling after each triumph makes it all worth it.
