A Technical Graduate supports food safety, quality assurance and compliance within the business. I work specifically within the poultry sector, where I help to ensure products consistently meet strict safety, quality and legal standards.
Give a description of a day in the life of a Technical Graduate
A typical day can involve a mix of project work and routine quality tasks. This might include investigating customer complaints and identifying ways to resolve them, improving factory procedures or updating and streamlining paperwork. I also carry out activities such as running taste panels and organoleptic testing, supporting QA teams and preparing for or assisting with audits. The role is varied and can change depending on business needs.
How did you end up in this job?
I studied Microbiology at university and wanted to apply my scientific knowledge in a practical setting. After graduating, I applied for this role in the food industry as it aligned with my interest in food safety and quality.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing this career?
I would recommend gaining a good understanding of the full supply chain and how each part of the business operates. It’s important to get involved with different departments where possible, as this helps you see the bigger picture.
Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
In five years, I would like to be in a more senior technical role, with greater responsibility for food safety and quality and managing a team.
