After you qualified, did it take long to find a job?
Once I graduated, it took me 2 months to find this job. I had interviews for different companies but it was not successful. The search was very long and it can be demotivating when you get declined. I used my university’s career centre to help with the job hunt, as well as other websites.
How did you end up in this job?
I came across this job on a website that promoted first time jobs for apprentices and graduates. I applied, not sure if I had the correct qualification, but I completed the application anyways. There was a series of rounds including, a video with questions and an assessment centre.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The best thing about this job is the people I get to meet. Every story is different from the next one you hear. People have been all across the company or have stayed in the same position for a very long time. Advice and tips are given along the way, and you speak to people who have seen change work and not work.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
In 5 years’ time, I would like to be in a management position, with supply chain operations. It would be a position whereby I can utilise the skill sets and knowledge that I would have obtained in the previous 4 years of the programme. I would like the position to have elements of traveling within and outside of the UK.
If you could give your 16 year old self some career advice, what would it be?
My advice would be, to continue to push hard. Ask more questions and try to network with more people and stay in contact with them. It’s really important to network as early as possible. You never know who can help in the future.
