- What does a Senior Financial Accountant do?
A Senior Financial Accountant helps guide the business by reporting on their current financial situation. I will also work closely with other departments to identify future spend and help identify opportunities for savings to help steer the business to meeting their financial strategies.
- How did you end up in this job?
I have always had a keen interest in maths and how the world of business operates, I found that accounting was a career where I would be able to combine these two interests. After a two-week work experience program in an accounting department, I know that I wanted a career in accounting. I then went on to get a better understanding of accounting though a course at my local college and then though an accounting course at the University of Sheffield.
- How long have you been doing your job?
I have been in my current position for one year however I have been working for the finance team at Manton Wood now for 5 five years and I am currently working to though a development to help me progress my role.
- Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I would like to be leading the finance team at Manton as the finance manager and working as part of the senior management team to help the site meet its short and long term strategies. This will be a challenge, but I feel that with the help of my colleagues and the recourse I have available working at Manton Wood, I will be able to achieve this target I have set myself.
- If you could give your 16 year old self some career advice, what would it be?
Hard work will always pay off in the end and never be afraid of asking questions. I work with some many people who have specialised in different areas of the food manufacturing process, and they have wealth of knowledge to share and will help you think different in different situations.
