- Describe your job in 20-25 words.
I audit, investigate, and resolve issues related to food safety and quality. Everyday is different.
- How did you end up in this job?
During my A-Levels I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, but I did know that I wanted a degree without the debt. In year 13 I went on the government website and searched for Level 6 Degree apprenticeships from companies which focused on the progression of their people and fortunately my current position caught my eye. I applied, interviewed, and got the job and now I’m getting paid a good salary whilst I study a degree at Nottingham Trent University for free.
- Has your salary changed since then – if not do you see salary progression?
At my company, my managers and mentors seem to genuinely care about my career progression. In my first 9 months I climbed from a Technical Apprentice to a Quality auditor which meant a great increase to my original starting salary. This has put me on a good salary for my age and with the combination of the debt free degree also, the apprenticeship program has had some huge advantages compared to the regular university path.
- Where do you see yourself in five years time?
In 5 years time I would like to see myself having finished my degree, in a management position at my company, and with lots more experience in the workforce.
- If you could give your 16 year old self some career advice, what would it be?
Don’t feel rushed to go into anything after you’re A-levels, there’s plenty of time and you won’t be behind if it takes a little while to find something that seems best for you and your future. And don’t let school push you towards paths that don’t excite you.
