• Describe your job in 20-25 words.

My apprenticeship is divided into 3 different placements. I get assigned a role each year, my first role was as a planner in the production department.

• How did you end up in this job?

I ended up with Samworth as I found them through the government apprenticeship website. I wanted to get onto a course like this as being able to obtain a university degree and get qualified by experience. Since I have always loved business and learnt it for A level a career in logistics seemed fitting.

• What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing this career?

Go for it. The opportunities are endless. Nothing is permanent and this line of work allows for constant change as the skills are extremely transferable.

• What’s the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job is the fact that I can learn from so many skilled individuals and have the flexibility to carry out a variety of tasks. As an HLA every day is a learning experience. For example if I wake up one day and decide that I would love to spend a day with procurement then with the support of my line manager we can make it happen.

• Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

In 5 years’, time I hope to be a part of the senior leadership team. I hope that during my apprenticeship I find the function I like the most and pursue it further.
