What does an Apprentice Technician do?

In my role, as I am learning, I assist with maintenance tasks, getting to use a wide range of tools and equipment, and make sure production runs smoothly. This could be by identifying, and fixing, faults and issues with all sorts of machinery.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing this career?

Pursuing a career as a technician or engineer can be really rewarding, especially if you enjoy solving problems, working with your hands, and learning how things work. Make sure you ask loads of questions, you can never ask too many!

What’s the best thing about your job?

I love working in a team, meeting experienced and knowledgeable engineers who are willing to help is great.

How long have you been doing your job?

I started at a training centre in September 2024; I went onto site full-time in July 2025.

What was your starting salary?

£18,500

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

By then, I will be qualified so I hope to see myself working alongside the same engineers who taught me, I really look forward to constantly progressing and gaining more qualifications.
