  • What does a HR Co-ordinator do?

A HR Co-ordinator supports the HR Manager with day-to-day duties, this can range from onboarding to data input, modern slavery interviews, to assisting in disciplinaries, investigations and grievances. I also assist in the administration and implementation of policies and procedures, alongside supporting employee relation activities, and organising Employee of the Month.

  • What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing this career? Absolutely no day is the same, the job requires a lot of multitasking and prioritising. One piece of advice is to take everything with a pinch of salt, you will be a first port of call to a lot of employees and being able to deal with a difficult situation/conversation is hard at first, but with practice it becomes a lot easier, once you learn how to communicate calmy and empathetically, but not being afraid to challenge when required, but once you do this, you will have such a big boost of confidence.
  • Where do you see yourself in five years’ time? In 5 years’, time, I would love to see some career progression, maybe doing my Level 5, and maybe even specialising in something! I would also like to have started some active climb towards training for Management, as this is something I really want to prove to myself that I am capable of doing.
  • If you could give your 16-year-old self some career advice, what would it be? It’s okay to change your mind every 5 minutes about what job you want to do … you’re 16!! And it’s okay that you didn’t do the best in school, your time will come, and you are going to smash it!! Just because the path isn’t straight from point A to point B, it’s not the end of the world, so don’t sweat the small stuff, everything will be A okay, you’re doing great :)
  • How did you end up in this job? I was working in recruitment, and I had started to work with an agency to help find a role within HR, I got a call one day from the agency who told me all about this job, and asked if I wanted my CV putting forward, I thought “why not let’s do it!” 2 interviews and an informal cuppa later I was offered the job! I never thought I would be put on a Level 3 apprenticeship either, I am very happy to be doing active self-improvement.
