Imran Bhimji-Walker — Higher Level Apprentice

Name: Imran Bhimji-Walker
Job title: Higher Level Apprentice
Employer: Samworth Brothers
Qualification: Level 3 Business Studies. Currently studying Food Technical degree
What does a HLA at Samworth Brothers do?

During my time as a HLA I will support several businesses within the group, either on a 1 year or 6-month rotation, whilst studying my degree. I’m currently on my second placement working at Westward Laboratories currently completing a shelf-life validation. In my first placement I worked as a process Technologists supporting the Process team which is based around preparing a kitchen sample for mass production in the factory.

How did you end up in this job?

I ended up in this role after working as a production operative at Walker crisps with a drive to progress further, I believed this scheme would give me the best opportunity to do just that.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The best thing about being a HLA is having the opportunity to interact with so many different people within the business. I have gained so much wider knowledge with the exposure I have been offered.

How long have you been doing your job?

I have been on the scheme at Samworth for just over a year but have been working overall in the food industry for nearly 4 years.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

In a position where I have the skills and knowledge to make a real difference. Which is what my current scheme in my opinion is setting me up to do.
