Job title: Group HR Recruitment Assistant
Employer: Dunbia

  • What does Group HR do? We look after the recruitment systems, E-Visas, conduct telephone exit interviews, manage visa renewals, complete telephone interviews and telephone exit interviews.
  • Describe your job in 20-25 words.

I’d say my job is fun, and rewarding, no two days are really the same as you never know what is around the corner.

  • Give a description of a day in the life of Group HR.

First thing I do before starting anything is check my emails, filter through any immediate action ones, email a site if their worker has had their visa renewal approved by the Home Office, I will then check my excel spreadsheet to check who is ready for a visa renewal and ones who are I will apply for their renewal and then email the sites explaining their worker has been submitted and then update the spreadsheet.

  • How did you end up in this job?

I always took an interest in HR and never thought I’d be able to have a job I’ve always wanted. When I saw my job vacancy, I took no chances and immediately applied. I was nervous for my face-to-face interview and thought it went badly but to my surprise thankfully, I got the job and the rest is history I haven’t looked back since.

  • What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing this career?

What are you waiting for? Go for it! Don’t think about it, it’s a really rewarding career and something you can climb the ladder in if it is something that interests you.

  • What’s the best thing about your job?

Being a part of a great team, being able to work with all of our other sites on renewals means I get to speak with all different people from different locations across the UK, visiting other sites and meeting the teams in person is always great too.

  • If you had the chance to do it all over again, what would you do the same / differently?

I wouldn’t doubt my capability and just keep applying for the role I wanted so I could get into this career sooner.

  • How long have you been doing your job? 10 Months already, time has absolutely flown by.
  • Where do you see yourself in five years time?

I’d like to hope that in 5 years’ time I have gained even more experience, done more training courses and hopefully climbed the ladder a little.

  • If you could give your 16-year-old self some career advice, what would it be?

Believe in yourself. You can do anything you put your mind to. Stop thinking you’ll never be able to do something because there could be someone better, you have your own skills and talent, and you will be what someone is looking for. If at first, you don’t succeed keep trying and try again.

  • Did you buy something special with your first pay cheque?

I didn’t actually buy anything special with my first pay, I ended up buying my car 4 new tyres instead, but since then I have been able to buy myself House Of Amor lashes.
