Give a description of a day in the life of a Group Auditor?
Every day is different. Some days I’m analysing financial statements or preparing audit reports; others I’m out on-site, meeting operational teams, understanding processes, and identifying areas for improvement. There’s a strong balance between technical financial work and people interaction, which makes the role dynamic and rewarding.
After you qualified, did it take long to find a job?
It took me a year to find a high level scheme.
How did you end up in this job?

What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing this career?
Be curious, analytical, and open-minded. Internal audit is about understanding how things work and how they can work better. Build good communication skills—being able to explain findings clearly is just as important as identifying them. And don’t underestimate the value of learning on the job—it’s the best classroom.

The best part is the variety and impact. I get to work with different sites and departments, learn how various businesses operate, and contribute to making meaningful improvements. It’s also great to see how my work helps strengthen financial performance and operational efficiency.
How long have you been doing your job?
I’ve been in my current Group Auditor role for two months, but I’ve been with Samworth Brothers for over a year—previously working in Management Accounting, where I focused on areas like GRNI, variance analysis, and continuous improvement projects.
Has your salary changed since then – if not do you see salary progression?
Yes, my salary has increased as I’ve progressed through the programme and taken on greater responsibility. There’s clear progression as I continue gaining experience and pass further CIMA exams.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I see myself progressing into a Finance Business Partner or Management Accountant role, using my audit experience to influence strategic decisions and drive continuous improvement across the business.
