What does a Food To Go Commercial Executive do?
I’m currently part of the Tesco FTG team, managing the meal deal and chilled snacking range for Tesco and selected partner brands. As an Executive, I support the commercial account through demand forecasting, sales tracking, and coordinating new product launches throughout the year.
How did you end up in this job?
I knew I wanted to pursue a degree apprenticeship to gain industry experience while earning a university qualification. I searched both the government apprenticeship site and job platforms like Indeed, then applied directly through company websites. From the opportunities I received, I chose Samworth Brothers scheme as my preferred offer.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Although I’m not a qualified chef or directly involved in hands-on food development, I love working in the food industry because of my genuine interest and passion for food. Plus, it often comes with the bonus of delicious samples at work — and sometimes goodies to take home!
If you had the chance to do it all over again, what would you do the same / differently?
I would definitely make the same decision again. I’ve grown to really enjoy the industry I ended up in, even though it wasn’t a route I intentionally set out to follow. While it can be hard work balancing both, the opportunity to earn a degree while building my career makes me confident, I made the right choice. Plus, many people tell me they wish they had taken the same path!
If you could give your 16 year old self some career advice, what would it be?
The advice I’d give is that you probably don’t yet know the title of your dream job — or even that it exists. So be open to trying new things whenever you get the chance. The more exposure and experience you gain, the closer you’ll get to discovering and reaching the career that’s truly right for you.
