How did you end up in this job?
I always wanted to do a degree in Food Science. I then saw this opportunity on the Government website and applied to the degree apprenticeship scheme with Premier Foods, following the completion of my A-levels. I was lucky enough to be offered this opportunity, and in the September, I began my career.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing this career?
To pursue a career as a degree apprentice in the food industry you need to make sure you are always willing to take on a challenge. You also need to be hard working and self-motivated and have good time management skills. I would also recommend students to gain relevant work experience where possible, for example, I had a Saturday job in our local butchers, which helped to show that I was keen and interested in working in the Food Industry.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The fact that I will achieve all of the qualifications that I need to succeed, whilst also gaining work experience and without the burden of student debts.
How long have you been doing your job?
2 and a half years – I am half-way through my degree apprenticeship.
