What does a Finance Apprentice do?

A finance apprentice can you a range of many tasks, but for me I am currently in the Purchase Ledger Team where we process invoices and credit notes received from our suppliers. I also run reports that aid with weekly and monthly reconciliations that need we need to complete for audit purposes. Preparing and understanding the AP KPIs I work closely with many different departments within the company such as Goods-in, Procurement and Material Planning on a daily basis. This collaboration has given me valuable insight into how the wider business operates and how the actions of other departments directly impact Finance and the importance of accuracy and attention to details.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing this career?

An apprenticeship is probably one of the best routes to enter the field of Finance and Accounting, as you are gaining industry relevant qualifications whilst building your experience and knowledge. In addition, Finance is so broad and diverse field with many specialisms to explore, offering a wide range of roles across the company.

It might seem surprising but every day is different! No two days are the same and that’s what I love about it.
