Bethany Johnson — Finance Apprentice

Name: Bethany Johnson
Job title: Finance Apprentice
Employer: Bakkavor
What does a finance apprentice do?

A finance apprentice can do a range of different things depending on what team they work in. Currently, I work in the Order to Cash (OTC) team, our team is split into two sections, transactions and ledgers, which covers everything from when an order is made to when it is paid for. My day-to-day role in the ledger team involved sorting inboxes, managing customer account reconciliations, sales prep and writing off debit notes. In the transaction team, my day-to-day role involves invoicing and posting cash.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job is being able to not just work with your own team but also other teams as well as you get to meet lots of new people. You also get to learn new things daily and take on different roles. The apprenticeship side of the job is also fun as you get to travel to new places and meet other apprentices at workshops and training.

What was your starting salary?

My starting salary was around £20,000

How long have you been doing your job?

Since September 2025

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

In five years’ time, I want to have successfully completed my AAT Level 4 Professional Diploma and hopefully be on the Bakkavor graduate scheme working towards achieving my CIMA qualification. I also hope to have gained valuable experience across different financial roles.
