What does a multiskilled engineer do?
They are here to ensure that production in the factory is able to run as efficiently as possible. This entails carrying out regular PPM work, so that the machines are ready to be used in production. As well as this, they also work when there’s a breakdown, which they aim to repair the machine, whether it’s an electrical fault or mechanical, to allow production to resume.
Describe your job in 20-25 words
I work to support the department in any way which is possible, whilst also learning how to do said work independently where possible.
What’s the best thing about your job?
So whilst being based at my site in Grantham, we are also sent away for block release in Birmingham. This is where we attend college and get an understanding of the theory behind the work we then do in the factory. Here, there are other apprentices from not only my site, but also other sites of Moy Park. This means I’ve met lots of great people.
What was your starting salary?
£20,000.
How long have you been doing your job?
I’ve just started my second year. The course lasts for four years. As time has gone on, I am expected to take on more responsibilities, and support the team more.
