Jaya Diarra — Customer Service and Supply Chain Graduate

Name: Jaya Diarra
Job title: Customer Service and Supply Chain Graduate
Employer: Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP)
Qualification: BA Hons in Business Analysis and Technology
What does a Customer Service and Supply Chain Graduate do?

You follow a 3 year programme in which you try different roles across manufacturing, logistics and customer service. For 2 years you rotate across departments and sites, to then complete a year of team leading where you can utilise the learning and skills you have gained.

Describe your job in 20-25 words.

There is always something new to learn and do every day! You get to travel and meet people with different skills and backgrounds

After you qualified, did it take long to find a job?

I spent 5-6 months applying for different roles across different business functions, with the goal of landing a graduate position. Being a graduate meant I could experience and learn more within a workplace with extra support. It was difficult to stay motivated but in the end it paid off with a great position in food and drink manufacturing.

If you could give your 16 year old self some career advice, what would it be?

You don’t have to be certain on what you want to do when you finish school. There are loads of opportunities for work without spending 3-4 years at university such as apprenticeships. Even though university is a popular choice, you can become qualified and get paid through such programmes. However, if you do go to university and find that you still don’t know what career path to take afterwards, research apprenticeship alternatives during and after university, such as internships and graduate programmes.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing this career?

Be flexible and willing to try new things as there are numerous opportunities to expand your career prospects. Don’t enter with predetermined expectations of the industry. I can assure you that your perspective will change on your first day when you realise how many elements are involved in the manufacturing process. Talk to everyone you can because there is a wealth of knowledge and experience to gain and in turn you become a recognisable and friendly face.
