- What does someone working in Shopper Marketing do?
Shopper marketing is essentially about delivering any advertising you see in-store or through a website (e-commerce). A fundamental part of the role is about building rapports with the sales team and retailers to ensure the brand has maximum visibility. A portion of this role involves working with third party agencies to deliver briefs and monitor progress on creatives.
- How did you end up in this job?
After finishing university, I knew that I wanted to roll onto a graduate scheme as I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do and thought a graduate scheme provides an ideal opportunity to explore different areas of the business and find something that I enjoy. I wanted to work in an industry that interested me and knew food would be a fun area, and then happened to see that Samworth Brothers offer a graduate scheme – as living in Leicester I’m always seeing their lorries pass-by !
- If you had the chance to do it all over again, what would you do the same / differently?
I’d say don’t be afraid to ask questions! It’s important to build rapports with your team and establish a strong network, as these will be your cheerleaders as you advance in your career. Get stuck-in and explore areas that are of interest to you, whether that be shadowing or alike!
- How long have you been doing your job?
I started in September 2023, and as part of the graduate scheme I will do 4 different placements across various Samworth Brother sites in different departments that include; sales, category & marketing.
- If you could give your 16 year old self some career advice, what would it be?
It’s fine if you don’t know what you want to do as a job in the future, try and think of areas which interest you and go from there!
