Describe your job in 20-25 words.
I manage a team which forms the master data function on our site. I also manage a cost model with Tesco which we use to review price changes throughout the year.
After you qualified, did it take long to find a job?
Not really. My first job was working in a ledger team for a Plumbing company. After 3 months there, I successfully applied for a role at Samworths and I’ve been here ever since!
What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing this career?
I think the first bit of advice would be to start studying for a professional accounting qualification like CIMA or ACCA as soon as they can. Try and get this done early and more doors will open to towards career progression. Also, within your roles, ask lots of questions and try and work out how things work. Its great learning about products and processes and it really helps to understand how the business works.
What’s the best thing about your job?
I would say it’s the people I work with. Seems cliché but we all try and help each other achieve our objectives but we all also has some fun doing it.
How long have you been doing your job?
I have been at Samworths for 20 years. However, I have had many different roles and each one has challenged me to learn more about the business which makes it interesting and dynamic.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Still at Samworths but trying to conquer another challenge!
