- Describe your job in 20-25 words.
- My job is to create and finalise costings for our products to get sent to customers such as Tesco and I prepare weekly gross margin reports.
- How did you end up in this job?
- I enjoyed the problem-solving aspect of maths at GCSE and for my A-levels I picked Accounting & Finance as one of my options. I then wanted to see how my A level applied to the real world, I did a weeks work experience when I was 16 at Samworth Brothers within the Finance department and I really enjoyed this. At University I also studied Accounting & Finance, this included a placement year in which I did financial accounting which further increased my desire to pursue this as a career. I then applied to a variety of graduate jobs however this scheme was the best for myself as the 3 year rotation gives you experience in all the aspects of Accounting being Commercial, Management & Financial.
- What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing this career?
- The best advice I would give is to try as soon as possible to get some work experience in a variety of different finance sectors as there are so many jobs within the industry. This will help you to apply what you have learnt throughout college and further studies in a real life scenario.
- What’s the best thing about your job?
- The best thing about my job is the variety of work and the real responsibility Samworth have given me within my role. No day is the same and you speak to a range of different people and teams which has given me a great understanding of the business. I have had the opportunity to develop my presentation and leadership skills as well as studying towards my CIMA qualification which is fully supported by Samworth.
- Where do you see yourself in five years time?
- In 5 years time I would like to be a fully qualified accountant and complete my 3 year role here at Samworth Brothers. I hope to progress in my career and hopefully stay at Samworth Brothers.
