What does a Apprenticeships Advisor do?
I help support and run our apprenticeships programme across Samworth Brothers, this includes the upskilling of staff and the new apprentices into the business. I help to onboard the learners, support them through the programme and solve any issues that may arise. I also look after the Tasty Careers within Samworth brothers. I liaise with schools and colleges and help them to gain volunteers from Samworth Brothers to come along to inspire their students and make them aware of the jobs available in the Food and Drink sector.
How did you end up in this job?
I initially started my career working with schools and colleges to help bridge the gap between school/ college and the world of work. I really enjoyed support students and making them aware of the careers that are out there and available to them. When I began looking to build on my skills and knowledge further within a different business, the opportunity to combine my old role and learn more about the careers world came available it really appealed to me, this is a really exciting role and no two days are the same.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing this career?
I would say if you were a super keen learner and like to be busy then go for it! This role is very rewarding and gives you the opportunity to learn and develop all the time. It is very people focused and you spend a lot of time building strong relationships.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The people I work with. There is also so much variety in my role and I get to engage with so many different people on a day-to-day basis. It is a very rewarding job as you are able to see that you have helped and supported people through their learning journey.
If you could give your 16 year old self some career advice, what would it be?
Be open, at 16 there is a lot of pressure to know exactly what you want to do as a career. Spending time focusing on what you enjoy and what interests you is key. There will be lots of opportunities that come your way and always grab them with both hands because you never know where they could lead you in your career.
