Job title: Operations Graduate
Employer: Pilgrims Europe
Qualification: BSc (Hons) Human Resource Management (Assoc CIPD Member)
Salary Range: £30,000
  • Describe your job in 20-25 words.

I’m learning how food production works, improving processes, building relationships and developing leadership skills to help make operations more efficient.

  • After you qualified, did it take long to find a job?

I found out I was successful for the Pilgrim’s Europe Graduate Programme even before I finished University, which helped take a lot of pressure off my shoulders as I knew what my next steps where.

  • What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing this career?

As an Operations Graduate in the food industry, my advice is to be curious, adaptable, and willing to get hands-on experience. Food production is fast-paced, and problem-solving is a big part of the job. Understanding how processes work and finding ways to improve them is key. Strong communication and teamwork skills will help you work effectively with different teams.

  • What’s the best thing about your job?

It would have to be the diversity. At Pilgrim’s Europe, diversity isn’t just about people. It’s in the way in which we work, the technology we use, and the different processes that keep food production running. Every day is different, and being part of such a fast-moving environment makes it an exciting place to learn and grow.

  • How long have you been doing your job?

I have been in my role for nearly 7 months now, I am on my second rotational placement as part of the Graduate Programme.

  • If you could give your 16-year-old self some career advice, what would it be?

It’s fine not to have everything figured out just yet. Focus on building your skills, working hard, and staying open to opportunities. Do not compare yourself to others, as everyone’s career path is different. Most importantly, enjoy the different opportunities that come your way and don’t let failure put you off. Turn your weaknesses and failure into opportunities!

  • Where do you see yourself in five year’s time?

I hope to see myself in a leadership role, guiding teams and driving our business forward. After all, the Pilgrim’s Europe Graduate Programme is designed to develop the next generation of leaders for our business.
