What does a HR Graduate do?
As a HR Graduate at the beginning of my career, I am learning all of the day-to-day tasks HR professionals deal with. I work on absence management, recruitment, employee relations, and diversity & inclusion and ESG projects.
How did you end up in this job?
When I was studying business, I realised that the aspect I enjoyed the most was Human Resource Management. I love working with people and helping others, so I realised working in HR would be perfect for me.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The best thing about working in HR is bringing great people into the business and seeing them succeed.
If you had the chance to do it all over again, what would you do the same / differently?
I would definitely choose a degree that is CIPD accredited. CIPD is the association for HR professionals, and CIPD qualifications are often a requirement for high-level HR positions.
If you could give your 16-year-old self some career advice, what would it be?
I would say that there are people who are 10, 20, or even 30 years into their careers and they still don’t know what they want to do! Don’t panic, take a look at what personal qualities you have and what you’re good at and look for some careers that suit these qualities.
