Give a description of a day in the life of
I start the day at 7.30am, I start to make the sourdough dough for the day. While that’s proving I put the cookies and pastries in the oven for the coffee shop. We sell about 250 cookies a week!
I then support the students, teaching them how to bake and provide for a coffee shop. This can vary and I support them how to make things like brownies, rocky road or scones.
In the morning I also bake off the sourdough loaves to provide sourdough for a number of coffee shops across Wrexham, who will then come to collect these in the afternoon.
My day can also involve designing new products and keeping up with the seasonal influences and current trends.
How did you end up in this job?
I have always loved baking and have baked since the age of 2! I started as a barista in a coffee shop and then started to help out in the bakery of the coffee shop and realised I could use my passion for baking in a career so applied to be the baker for Ial Bakery
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
I still see myself in the baking industry in 5 years. I want to keep learning more. I will have finished my level 3 diploma by then and want to keep developing my skills and designing new exciting products and supporting others to do the same.
If you could give your 16 year old self some career advice, what would it be?
You can make a career out of your hobby and passion!
Did you buy something special with your first pay cheque?
