What does a mechanical engineer do?
General maintenance e.g. fix, replace and renew, make new parts using lathes and milling machines and work on projects e.g. building platforms from scratch.

Working with different people, working in different roles within the factory, moving jobs inside but around the factory, Working with new people from outside the factory e.g. contractors or machine specialists
How long have you been doing your job?
My first year was full-time in college, now I have been on site for 17 months working on shift.
Has your salary changed since then – if not do you see salary progression?
Salary progression happens for the first 7 years of my job and will continue if I move up the career ladder.
If you could give your 16-year-old self some career advice, what would it be?
Most people don’t know what they want to do and neither did I, however the food and drink industry is a good way to go as you can earn and learn while you decide what you want to do. Also, this industry allows you to use several different paths to get into different jobs.
