Bakery Level 1 Diploma

The bakery section at The Sheffield College has achieved comprehensive competition and industry success at national and international levels. The bakery staff deliver excellent training, using outstanding facilities and equipment.

The Level 1 Bakery qualification is the first step towards your career in bakery. Designed for people who wish to work in this popular industry, the course will ensure you develop the basic skills needed and become familiar with industrial equipment This course is suitable for people currently working in the sector and looking to enhance their skills or those wishing to change career.

Please note that this course is not suitable for people wanting to learn home baking principles and practices. We are able to offer suitable short courses in cookery and bakery for anyone wanting to develop their skills for personal benefit or leisure.

Course content

Through this course you will develop a practical and theoretical understanding of weighing and mixing processes involved in a variety of bread and confectionery products. You will also develop further skills around confectionery finishing, packaging and selling techniques and food safety principles. Products in bread and confectionery range from traditional and craft items to modern.

Entry Requirements

  • The entry requirements required for the course are a level 1 qualification in English and Maths.

You will be required to purchase a uniform, equipment and appropriate work safe shoes. You will be expected to organise a period of work placement for yourself

You will have to produce a portfolio of evidence that shows your competency and you will be assessed by the following methods

  • Coursework
  • Timed practical assessments
  • Short answer questions
